Laban is the Senior Research Fellow with the Cybersecurity Capacity Centre for Southern Africa (C3SA). He is responsible for leading Capacity Maturity Model for nations (CMM) reviews, and he also conducts research regarding cybersecurity policy and practice in Sub-Saharan Africa.

C3SA (hosted by the University of Cape Town) is part of the global cybersecurity capacity research centres led by the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre at the University of Oxford. The Centre acts as a coordination and collaboration hub between cybersecurity capacity-building actors in order to reduce duplication of efforts on cyber capacity building in the region.
