Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO)

John is a seasoned author, consultant and trainer in the fields of Information and Cyber Security; IT Governance, Strategy and Risk Management; Data Privacy and Protection; Information Management; and Project Management. He has extensive experience in the aviation, ICT, healthcare and financial services sectors - with more than 30 years of experience in the ICT industry (approximately half of which have been spent in vendor organisations and the other half in user organisations).

Amongst other, John served as the Information Security Officer at a national airline for 10 years, and also served as a Senior Consultant for a prominent international technology research and consultancy company – specialising in Information and Cyber Security, IT Governance, and Information Management. He was accredited as an Openframework (Enterprise) Architect in the UK and has attained certifications in Data Privacy and Protection, Information Security, IT Services Management, and Project Management.

Recently John has focused on a number of areas relating to data privacy and protection, including:

• Co-authored several articles about data privacy and protection, and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
• Presented at SA and international workshops & conferences on data privacy and protection, and POPIA
• Provided consultancy to various local and international clients on data privacy and protection, POPIA, and the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR)
• Managed multiple projects on data privacy and protection, and POPIA
• Developed tools and guides for data privacy and protection, POPIA, and EU GDPR
